I’m reviving our discussion of Pope Francis’ apostolic constitution for contemplative nuns, by taking the conversation away from the close textual analysis of the last two posts. I’d like to highlight a recent post by Jenna Lay, author of the just-published Beyond the Cloister: Catholic Englishwomen and Early Modern Literary Culture (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2016). In this piece she examines the constitution and places it in the historical context with which she is most familiar. My thanks to Professor Lay for letting me post this resource here
I hope others will add their perspective!
